0% Down, 50% Savings: A Real Story on Switching to Solviva Rent-to-Own Solar

From ₱12K to 15K to about ₱6K, see how this home and sari-sari store owner stopped rationing her air conditioning use with Solviva's Rent-to-Own solar.

There was a rule in Nympha's house: the aircon in the sala only got turned on at night.

It wasn't a strict rule, just one of those quiet, practical adjustments Filipino households make without thinking twice about it, the kind of small sacrifice that becomes second nature when you're watching a bill increase every month.

Nympha runs a full household. She's an associate manager at an IT company, working from home three days a week. She also runs a sari-sari store, which means two large refrigerators are on around the clock. Add three air conditioning units, an automatic washing machine, a shower heater, an e-bike she charges for store deliveries, and five furbabies who, as she puts it, practically claimed the living room aircon as their own, and it's a home that runs on a lot of electricity.

For years, that meant a bill of ₱12,000 to ₱15,000 a month, and the kind of stress that comes with it.

“Kapag may bill na, syempre minsan nakaka-stress,” she said. With Meralco's rate per kilowatt-hour shifting from month to month, she found herself doing the math constantly, bracing for whatever number showed up next. “Usually masakit talaga yun sa bulsa, iisipin mo monthly ganito binabayaran mo.”

Solar had been on her mind for a while. What held her back, like it does for many homeowners, was the assumption that switching to solar meant a large amount of money out of pocket before seeing any return.

That assumption changed when she came across Solviva's Rent-to-Own program: zero down payment, with the first monthly payment due only after installation. “Meaning ginagamit mo na yung solar ng one month, tska ka palang mag-start na magbayad,” she explained. “Use it for a month before you pay for it.”

Before deciding, she did what most careful buyers do: she compared several solar providers, weighing company stability, product quality, and, just as important to her, how clearly her questions were answered. That responsiveness is what tipped the decision in Solviva's favor.

Once she committed, the process moved fast. The requirements were simple, one valid ID and a recent electricity bill, and installation was completed within a week. “Actually yung overall process sa Solviva, ang bilis talaga niya,” she said. “Agad-agad yung solar, pwede mo na magamit after the installation.”

The first bill after switching told the story on its own: almost 50% lower than what she used to pay, bringing her from the ₱12,000 to 15,000 range down to around ₱6,000.

“Ang laking tulong talaga sa pagbawas ng finances ko,” she said.

But for Nympha, the bigger shift wasn't just the number. It was that rule about the sala aircon, the one that no longer applies.

“Kung dati hindi pwede sabay-sabay yung aircon... ngayon nung naka-solar na ako, unlimited na yung paggamit at wala nang restrictions.”

Three aircons. No more taking turns. No more waiting for nighttime. Her furbabies, she says, are the ones who benefit most.

Looking back, Nympha's only regret is timing.

“I wish I knew Solviva Rent-to-Own sooner so I could have switched earlier to solar,” she said. “But I'm still grateful that I already switched now, and it's not too late.”

Her advice to anyone still on the fence echoes what a lot of new solar owners come to realize once the first lower bill arrives:

“It's normal to feel unsure since investment pa rin naman siya. Just take note, pagbabayad natin ng electric bill is forever, but for solar, may certain period of time lang siya na magbayad, then it's yours na.”

For a household that used to plan its evenings around an electricity bill, that's no small thing. Today, the sala aircon just runs: no rule required.
